Which on-road 1/10 for play?

Hey all,
ive tried to research this. I think it's gonna come down to the old,"What are you gonna do with it" answer. But, help me out,

I want an on-road nitro. Price range covers 1/10. that's it. I'll be selling a couple RC10-T3's to offset the cost. I think i want brand new, but i'm so cheap if I see a deal im going for it. Even if its the wrong car. That brings me back to the topic here, what car should I get?

I want 1/10, nitro, On-road.

I want to drift. I also want to straight up drive around, b@lls out as fast as I can go.

I have been drawn to the HPI line. I have never bought a 1/10th scale HPI. I assume they are pretty nice. (again, im looking for value, bang/perfomrance for the buck) I like the 2 speed transmission idea. I want to be able to tune the speed a bit here and there. This is where i get stuck. I want to drift as well as straight drive. I want speed. The HPI Drift is set up just for that. Totally different chassis layout and weight distribution. But only a single speed tranny. THe Evo is set up for all around performance and has the 2-speed tranny. I am assuming the EVO can be coersed into a drift, but, wll i be able to enjoy it as much as the Drift model? If I go with the Drift, will I hate myself for the lack of speed? Is there a big speed difference?

I know, i went on and on, but if just some of these questions get hit I would really be appreciative. Thanks all,

Dave

If you want to drift I think it is wise to go directly to the HPI D-spec.

If you wanna go for a normal HPI Evo or 18 models just be sure you get the D-spec tires also. Regarding drifting with a nitro, be sure to use a fuel with an extra bit of oil or keep it a tiny bit on the rich side to give the engine a long life.

The HPI 3 Evo RTR nitro sedan is decent and I had one a while back. Ran great and was very easy to maintain. It's a modular design which makes it easy to remove the motor and radio gear as units giving great access to the chassis bits. Built like a tank and parts are easy to find. Lots of upgrades should you ever feel the need.

I had a Nitro TC3 a while back and it was a blast to drive. It handled better than my old 4Tec and seemed a lot more sturdy. It was shaft driven and had adjustable just about everything suspension wise. It was also that modular type SteveM is talking about. Theyre also quite old now days so im sure you could pick one up cheap.
