Homer, what are the possibilities of you adding the Infinity G35 to your list?

hi stik,

I do appreciate your request... but its not on the list at this time.
sooo many requests, but sooo little time...me, myself & I.
Making the lids by hand is time consuming so I'm limited to what time I have and what lids I would add to my collection. This is more of a hobby for me and so anything that is crafted becomes available to anyone that wants one.

jw_j,
I handcraft them with a claylike material and then go thru the detailed process of making a plug to use on the vacuum former.

Hey homer, what body do you think would be the hardest to make? A Hemi Cuda with that grille? A Lotus Elise or Exige? Just thinking about doing that makes me cringe. Great job.

jw_j,

its not the scale model you need to make the lids...if it were that easy, everyone could do it. besides, the 1/18th scale models will not fit properly onto the micro chassis.

you either need the proper equipment to digitize any scale model and then reduce it to the proper dimensions on the micro chassis and then cnc (need deep pockets to do this..) OR spend the time to study and research learning industrial design, with all the proper tools and sculpting from scratch.

HPIsuperfan,

both desgns are completely different. I have an easier time doing curves, than I do straight cuts (like a cuda). It takes me longer to sciulpt a muscle car as compared to a sleek design like a mcLaren.

I agree, the straighter style lines are more unforgiving.
Homer, what is the material of the final plug?

plug material - an industrial version of hydrocal - easy to sand carve and dremel, but only good for several prototype runs, so I made them up in batches, once the master plug was perfected. my latest material is a product called renshape.

I've used renwood in the past. Is renshape similar? What do you use as a sealer?

I believe its similar, but Ive never used renwood.

renshape is like wood, but grainless. It doesn't breakup or splint in strands like wood and can take the high temps of vacuum forming.
I tested a block of it on the former and its works well.
As far as sealing it, Im going to try it without a seal, after I make a back up mould . It should work fine.
