The Secret of the Quantum 2....
I got a used Quantum 2 Competition. Its case was in horrible condition form bad soldering jobs, but it worked fine. It also was barely too big to fit my layout. I decided to open the case to heatshrink.
It wouldn't open. No matter how much I pried on the tabs the halves wouldn't separate. I finally contacted Alfred as I thought he had done this before, and he thought it was because this version is the waterproof type, and was full of silicone glue.
After just giving up and starting to whittle away the tabs and parts that werent coming off.. I discovered a secret. There is a smaller plastic case inside of the outer. I assume this is what gives it the waterproof ability. But the size is soo much smaller,
25.6x22.8XX13.3mm (minus soldering posts)
For reference, the stock box is 28.7X25.7X14.4 while a Novak Micro Gt is 28.4mm x 24.1mm x 12.1mm.
SCORE!
If you find a used waterproof version form the Quantum 2-3 lineup, chances are it might also have this interior design.
Be careful when taking apart, as the aluminum upper label is also the fet heatsink, and the outer box is inset into it on one side. Also, you might seal around the edges of the aluminum with silicone to keep from shorts afterwards.
