Battery pack = flame thrower
Hello all. I'm new to the board and pretty new to Micros.
I've been running my micro for three days without any problems. I've been loving it. Today, after running for about 10 minutes, I picked up the car to shut if off, and out of the battery pack shot flames. I quickly blew them out and took a look at what happened.
The battery wires on the ESC I'm using melted along with the ESC itself. There is a hole where the fire was coming out of on the battery pack.
Here's the setup -
Battery - HPI 6v nimh 1100maH
ESC - Airtronics ES-01
Tx - Airtronics Blazer Sport
Rx - Airtronics reciever with a BEC.
Everything is stock on the car.
WHAT HAPPENED? According to the manufacturers specs, this combo should have worked, and DID work for a few days.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance!

There must have been a short on the ESC at the solder points leading to the batteries. Did you do any soldering yourself?

Nope, I didn't do any soldering. Funny that the short didn't occur earlier if that was the problem.

These things can happen due to wear & tear or a maufacturing defect. Take some picts and look at it closely. Try to find the source and call the manufacturers and have them replace it.

I've heard of a lot of instances with the airtronics ES-01 speed control frying itself when used in a micro rs4.
The spec's say its fine, but the real world use seems to lead me to believe the es-01 is more meant for something like the ABC DTM, or the Kawada 1/24 scale cars...

I had a pack do that when charging, got too hot, vented, and melted a bunch of the plastic, and it vented some of the internals of the battery that caught fire, all inside my work cubicle! oops. I ran outside and threw it in the snow. Stupid NIMH.

Do you think it got too hot? it is somewhat close to the motor which does get hot as well. Come to think of it, the ESC was right above the motor too.
Would this have caused the problem?

i don't think so. i will bet it was the esc, just passed on. i was warned about that when i picked a es-01 for my secound micro. a stock micro motor is a big block for that esc. the esc was desined for the mini-z. hopoe your okay, and not muc h got burned. how was your gear mesh though?

gear mesh was fine. paper went through without ripping while still making teeth marks.
I've been running nitro for a few months and done many gear meshes with that, so I'm pretty sure that wasn't a problem.

Ok, so I opened up the ESC, and realized that the battery wires had melted and seized with the motor wires. I imagine that this might have caused the fire problem.
Airtronics better be helping me out with this one.
