The FAQ thread (the one and only!)
This is a thread that I hope will stay up near the top of the forum list on a regular basis. (or become a sticky).
The rules:
- You must post both the QUESTION and ANSWER for something that you're tired of hearing re-hashed on the forum over and over again as new Micro RS4 racers enter the scene. Put AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE in your question, and answer to cover as many bases as possible. Check to see that your question is not already in this thread (as it may get quite long as time goes on). Try not to post "Oh, I think this idea is a good one, good idea" or whatever. DO NOT POST responses to FAQ's in this thread. If you do, make sure you delete it within a few days so it doesn't clog up the thread.

Rear diff problems?
Question: Having trouble with a tight/loose stock rear differential, or one that's not very even in it's performance (car pulls right/left under acceleration, or turns well in one direction and not the other)?
Answer(s):
A) Rebuilt the rear differential, make sure there's no burrs on the gears, and make sure there's sufficient grease in the differential.
B) If it's tightening/loostening itself on a regular basis, try buying a second lock nut for the right rear wheel. Tighten the first one until it's at a setting that you like, then thread the second one on, and hold the first one with pliers while tightening the second one against it. It shouldn't slip again.
C) Try replacing the right rear wheel bushing with a Team Losi thrust bearing. Part #3098, and it's about 5 bucks.

Question: My belt feels uneven, or has "tight" spots when I'm turning it by hand.
Answer:
First thing, check the pulleys for their "true"-ness. Check to see that the front and rear pulleys are turning straight (no wobble), without rubbing against any guards or other bits.
Remove the front pulley, and check the "dips" in the pulley (where the belt goes) for dirt, or accumulated junk that wouldn't let the notches in the belt go all the way down. To clean them out, take a small blade screwdriver and gently scrape the junk out until it the belt will fit flush the whole way around. This also applies to the rear pulley, but can be cleaned without removing it from the car.

Why does the two/double sided tape holding my steering servo on to the chassis always come loose or lose it's "stick"?
[Answer]
When a servo is brand new the screws that hold the case together are not always as tight as they should be.
While using the Micro, the excess lubricant in the [new] servo heats up and becomes viscous (liquid) The lubricant then seeps through the servo casing and on to the two/double sided tape, destroying the adhesive properties.
Before installing the servo, tighten the four screws on the casing by about ¼ to ½ of a turn.
This should ensure the servo casing is sealed and the lubricant does not seep onto the mounting tape.

How fast does a the HPI micro RS4 go?
[Answer ]
A stock RTR micro with a 11T pinion, 4-cell battery box, and stock motor will go 15 mph. A 9T pinion that comes attached to the motor in the kit goes about 12mph. The 13T pinion goes faster (speed wise) than the 11T, logically.

Answer
It's all about how much money you want to spend. First (and cheapest) thing, dump the stock 4 cell AA setup for a 5 or 6 cell pack. You could buy an HPI 45 turn mod motor, but it's really a waste of money. To go really fast for cheap, get a Graupner Speed 300 (or equivilant from Team Orion or Peak) and modify or purchase a motor plate to make it fit. If money is no issue, go with a brushless setup. This will send your micro into low-Earth orbut.

If your surfaces are not clean servo tape will not stick very well. Just the oil from your skin will keep it from sticking as well as it can.
Clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol ($.49 at Walmart) just before sticking the tape on.
On my Micro I like to back the servo tape up with Shoe-goo. After mounting the servo with servo tape I put a little Shoe-goo where the servo mates to the chassis. This keeps the servo from wiggling side to side and weakening the servo tape.
My servos stay put until I want them to come loose.

sorry i'm new here. can someone answer these questions for me?
does the micro have a servo saver feature to it?
what motors(brushed) is there that the stock rtr esc cant handel?

The Micro RS4 does not come with a servo saver. Using the included bumper and body will help protect your servo. I use a metal gear micro servo and never worry about it.
Sorry not sure what motor limit the RTR ESC is. HPI only state that it can run any of thier motors. I believe their mod motor is 45 turns and not very fast compared to Big Blocks and other mod motors.
The bummer is it will only run on 4 to 5 cells. Most Micro racing is done on 1/10th scale tracks. If you don't have a 6-cell pack you are not going to keep up.
I use a GM V4 ESC. It can use 4 to 10 cells and is smaller than the HPI unit.
I built my car as a kit. If you are serious about racing your Micro I sugest you do the same. You can use better servo, radio, ESC etc and have a much better car even in stock form. Just my $.02

The difference is 10 milimeters. Sorry I could not resist.
Yes this referrs to the wheel base. Some bodies require a smaller (140mm) wheel base to remain close to 1/18th scale. Switching from one wheel base to the other requires moving the rear axel and using a smaller or larger belt depending on which direction you are going.
I believe this is covered in the owners manual. Check it for details.

[INSTEAD OF USING SERVO TAPE USE THE SERVO MOUNT THAT COMES WITH THE LINK AND TIE ROD SET. BETTER THAN TAPE AND ALOT CLEANER LOOKING
